This memorial website was created to remember Steven Russll Winchell who was born in Mt. Vernon, Illinois on October 16, 1949 and passed away on September 15, 2008 at the age of 58. He will live forever in our memories and hearts.

Steven Russell Winchell, 58, of East Peoria, passed away at 10:23 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2008, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

Steven was born on October 16, 1949 in Mt. Vernon, a son of Russell and Margaret (Horsburgh) Winchell, Sr. He married Deborah Ann Fries on May 18, 2001 in Peoria. She survives.

He is also survived by his daughters, Rhoda Ann Winchell at home and Deana Winchell Larimore of Peoria; sons, Kobi Winchell Jostad of Wisconsin and Stevie Winchell of Mt. Vernon; step-son, Justin (Darlena) Moore of Peoria; brothers, Rutherford “Ed” Winchell of North Carolina and James Winchell of Peoria Heights; sister, Sharon Carter of Arkansas; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. His parents; one son, Stevie; and one brother, Rusty, preceded him in death.

Steven was last employed as an automotive detailer for Auto Lane in Peoria. He was also a member of the Christian Assembly Church in Peoria.

He enjoyed listening to Country music, playing cards, fishing and bingo. He loved spending time with his children and visiting family and friends. He was a very good person and had a great heart. He was very thoughtful of others, very forgiving, full of spunk and ornery. Steven will be remembered as a very loving, giving and caring man.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at the Christian Assembly Church in Peoria, with Pastor Terry L. Goode officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at Clary Funeral Home, 1625 W. Candletree Drive, in Peoria. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Steven R. Winchell Fund at the Fondulac Banking Center in Sunnyland.

Steven is with the Lord now.

Dearest Deborah

I'm so sorry to hear about Steve's passing but am thrilled that he had a genuine spiritual experience with the Lord!   Sorry I didn't get to come to the funeral....I didn't hear about it until after it was over.   God already knows the end from the beginning....we are each appointed a day to die....according to God's Word.   There are no surprises to Him.   Our lives on earth are so short compared to eternity.  The number one thing we can do is ask Jesus into our hearts  and try to live for Him.   No one is perfect....we're all a work in progress!   As long as we stay connected to God...He is the one that changes us from the inside out.   I ran into your Aunt Mary Ann yesterday and she gave me a good good report on how Steve changed and reached out to so many people after experiencing the love of Jesus in his own heart!   I know you and Rhoda will miss him so much.  God will take care of you both and supply every single need you might have.   It's a promise in His Word!   Trust in the Lord With All Your Heart........Lean Not Unto Your Own Understanding.   In All Your Ways Acknowledge Him And He Will Direct Your Path!   You are in my prayers Deborah.   Hope to see you at the benefit.  Love & Prayers To YOU!
